OUR SOLUTION

“Te interest in leveraging technology in schools is

growing at a rapid pace. We are looking at ways to effectively harness these innovative tools into

blended learning, with the goals of expanding

course options, facilitating differentiated instruction, enhancing self-directed learning, and further increasing student engagement

and achievement.” JANET KEMP

Chair, Education Committee

The recently-completed BHS Comprehensive Master Plan thoroughly analysed each building on campus, various usages of existing classrooms and facilities, and the overall physical plant. Inspired by the ‘STEAM’ concept, where Art and Design thinking are integrated with the STEM subjects, the study resulted in a critical need for two new centres.

The Innovation Centre

New and dedicated facilities are urgently needed if BHS is to prepare its students, and especially girls, for subjects that business communities around the world consider essential. Existing buildings offer insufficient lab and classroom space for both Primary and Secondary students and their infrastructures cannot accommodate today’s high-tech learning spaces.

To solve this problem, a new, 14,000—15,000 square-foot structure purposed for science, math and technology will house these critical components:

• five science labs • centre for leadership • design and innovation space • state of the art information and computer technology laboratories • research, study hall and digital media library centre • classrooms for business, accounting and economics • an entrepreneur centre where students can test their business skills

The new centre will foster greater aptitude for science and technology, and promote a more competitive and cutting-edge curriculum in which technology is linked to multiple subjects. Recognising that information technology is not yet, well integrated in most school curricula, the BHS faculty envision that the Innovation Centre will afford them this leading opportunity.
