Around Kingswear

Some apology from yours truly this month as I have been off travelling and only just landed back on Kingswear’s shore. If you have any items you would like to be included in the next By the Dart do please contact me on 752928 and I will make sure they appear. However things have not stood still while we have been away...!

Free Range Women No, Edward Jones has not started a

new trade in his upper fields, but this is the title of a new group, hoping to form. This is what you need to know: ‘Many people have remarked on the inactivity of the social group for women formerly known as Kingswomen. As there seems to be a feeling in Kingswear that there should be an opportunity for women to have a regular get-together, a new group is starting to emerge. This will be very informal, will meet on a monthly basis on dates and times to be agreed by members and have a very eclectic programme which should appeal to every taste. So it will be fun and frolics, trips and treats, culture and creativity for like-minded women in the village, Hillhead or beyond! Our first foray will have taken place on Wednesday February 22nd involving a trip to Slapton Lee with coffees, cakes and lunches. If you would like to know more on a ‘suck-it-and-see’ basis please contact either Jan on jan_ cattell@yahoo.co.uk or at Hillhead penny.bainbridge@gmail.com or call 752928 or look for the posters and we will put you on a database for quick communication. The programme will be devised from your suggestions and can be anything you want it to be. So, no pressure, no membership fees – just pay as you go and go as you please.

Neighbourhood Plan Hopefully you have all now filled-

in your Neighbourhood Plan questionnaires and returned them, since the cut-off date was February 28th. The results of these questionnaires will are scheduled to be revealed at the Annual Parish Meeting on Monday May 15th in the village hall at 7:30pm, unless you hear any different nearer the time. These results are important for shaping the future of the village and for the influence we have, as a community, to enjoy our say in such weighty matters.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Eileen Parkes and her team for the huge amount of work, which has gone in to the preparation and production of the Neighbourhood Plan, and to Lucy Payne for the Parking Questionnaire. These things take time and sweat to produce and it is very easy to take them for granted; I hope we do not.

Car Parks As you will know the car park

arrangements behind the station and in the marina have recently changed. Information has been freely available to explain the changes and the reason for them but, in the way of all these things, there appears to be some slight confusion as to what exactly should happen. The following from Darthaven will, hopefully, shed fuller light on the new system.

New System for Car Parking at Darthaven Marina

From 1st February 2017 all car parking at Darthaven Marina will be operated by Premier Parking Solutions (PPS). This is a necessary change brought about by the need to remove the barriers at the main entrance but will affect all users in both the Main marina and Station Car Parks. Importantly this will mean both car parks are now pay and display on entry rather than waiting to make payment on exit.

Both car parks will become part of the pay and display system combined with an Automatic Number Plate Recognition system (ANPR) to check for parking infringements, however the car parks will still be patrolled by uniformed PPS attendants.

Motorists must take care to authorise their vehicle correctly for parking by entering their vehicle registration exactly
