Michael Sutton’s Cellar Family run independent wine merrchant

We thought it would be a good idea to explain to “By The Dart” readers what Michael Sutton’s Cellar offers as a local independent wine merchant.

What do you drink with your picnic? What do you drink with your picnic?

Wine educaTion “Wine in a day” on Saturday 18th

Our cellar, which actually is a shop in an old barn, is on the outskirts of Stoke Fleming and just up the valley from Blackpool Sands. (Our postcode TQ6 0LG brings you direct to the door!) If you are new to us, we are happy to deliver your purchases anywhere in the South Hams.

We are open Monday to Friday (9.00am- 5.00pm) and, at least once a month, we open at the weekends for Free Wine Tastings.

We sell many different styles of wine, many under £10, from all over the world plus champagne, sherry and port. We source a large proportion of our wine direct from small producers, which allows us to keep our prices competitive and the quality consistently high. Regulars will be keen to know that the stocks of Jean Curial Pinot Noir from Mâcon are now fully recharged.

A great way to see what we sell is to come to one of our Free Tastings. These are relaxed affairs and you will be guaranteed a warm welcome. As a rule, we select about 8 wines from our cellar list for you to try. It is a very enjoyable experience and you can have as much or as little help from us as you wish.

settled weather, yet the 2016 Dart Music Festival was blessed with wall to wall sunshine for three days and a bunch of highly talented musicians entertained young

With the popping of corks, there was a great festival feeling throughout Dartmouth that weekend particularly in the Mayor’s Avenue Gardens as dozens of music-lov- ers sat around on an array of colourful rugs surrounded by many other like-minded people. Food and wine were being handed around from well-stocked picnic baskets as everyone soaked up the sunshine and the sounds coming from the bandstand. This tranquil scene of an early summer reminded us of how lovely it is to share a bottle of wine with friends whether in a stunning setting by the River Dart or in our own back gardens.

Why not be prepared for such occasions by topping up your wine rack with wines for lazy picnic days and sizzling barbecues from us at Michael Sutton’s Cellar. Elegant whites match perfectly with summer salads and fish, punchy reds compliment any grilled food and our versatile Provence Rosé can be drunk throughout the day. Not to mention a refreshing glass of Prosecco or sparkling Rosé that gets any gathering off to a great start, so having a bottle handy to go with the nibbles is essential!
