A new viewing platform has been offi cially opened at Lytchett Bay View, off Border Drive – enabling birdwatchers to study this area’s unique birdlife, without damaging the fragile environment.
This platform was installed to prevent damage to the reed beds and their resident wildlife, by visitors accessing the shoreline to see the wide variety of birds here (waders, waterfowl and Water Rails – even fi shing Osprey!)
This platform is the latest in a series of improvements at this site. Ground clearance work has been done to increase biodiversity and boardwalks – constructed from recycled timber – have been installed, improving accessibility and creating circular walks.
This platform has been well received, being completed in Autumn 2016, but offi cially opened by civic dignitaries in January. Our Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs June Richards jointly opened it with Cllr Mrs Xena Dion, Mayor of Poole.
The raised platform project was fi nanced
through a £4,000 National Lottery grant and a £2,000 donation from The Birds Of Poole Harbour Charity.
