THAI TERRACE in Guildford

The Rooftop Restaurant with the best view in town

Already hugely popular with Surrey’s social set, the combination of a winning venue serving some of the best contemporary Thai cuisine has resulted in the Thai Terrace remaining a firm local favourite. Within a stone’s throw of the Castle grounds on the 7th floor of the Castle car park it’s an unusual location that provides ample parking and easy access with spectacular panoramic views across Guildford town and the North Downs.

We began our soiree with an exquisite cocktail in the Lounge Bar - a perfect place to meet friends and colleagues after work, or just to come for a relaxing drink. There's plenty of low-level comfortable seating beneath a twinkling canopy of lights resembling the night sky and floor-to-ceiling windows with impressive displays of exotic orchids. All this looks out to the Palm terrace which really does feel like a little part of Bangkok in the middle of Guildford town centre, making it simply the most pleasurable venue to dine. The variety of table shapes allows plenty of seating for large group gatherings, parties and also smaller, more intimate spaces for more romantic dining experiences. We sat overlooking this fabulous terrace where you can enjoy stunning al-fresco views, all year around. The Thai Terrace offers an extensive menu with beautiful presentation. To start, we opted for a tasty mix of sharing starters and steamed Dim Sum which shaped up to be a feast of winning dishes underlined by little pots of colourful sauces. We also indulged in a bottle of perfectly chilled Sauvignon Blanc.

The Thai Terrace has a more traditional Thai sister restaurant called “Rumwong” perfect for pre-theatre dining located opposite G-Live. Both are Thai family owned businesses. You can choose from their very tempting a la carte menu but the wonderfully attentive staff are always willing to assist with the menu choice throughout your meal. For us they chose superb mains to share including sumptuous king fried prawns on a bed of fresh vegetables with honey and tamarind sauce, an intriguing and delicious signature soft shell white crab meat with hot wok spicy chilli noodles, but the winner was their sizzling platter of tender slices of Panang duck curry with sweet pineapple, lychees, cherry tomatoes and lime leaves.

It’s a place where you can dress up for a seriously stylish night out or just enjoy a casual and effortless evening.

A perfect setting for a celebration, romantic evenings or sophisticated business lunch. Be sure to pre-book to avoid disappointment. Lunch is served Monday to Saturday from 12:00 to 14:30 and dinner from 18:00 - 22:30.
