We’ve picked the very best looks from our favourite designers and catwalk trends for spring summer 2017. Geek chic is still big, except the geeks are now partying with rock stars. A return to the bad old days of power dressing, with a louche street edge, multi layering and soſt textures, and luxury materials that show you like the finer things in life, but don’t have to put too much effort in to look great. It’s all about camping and being out in the real world, practical but still dressed to kill. Tink camping and hiking with glamour.
Prada
The Prada collection for men completely caught the zeitgeist with its camping theme, straps and strong colours, superbly cut trousers and jackets mixed with soft t-shirts and tops. Complimentary colours used to bring attention to the excellent tailoring and offset the traditional camping palette to create great new looks. As usual Prada leads the way.
Balenciaga Lemaire
Aimed at the adventurer in all of us, those that like to live outside and on the edge. Lemaire focused on the utilitarian whilst retaining the glamour. Lots of zips, pockets, jackets and cagoules to keep the wealthy traveller happy and well equipped, but looking good at all times.
Huge shoulders reminiscent of the eighties, think shoulder pads for American football players, paired with styled waists and luxury materials that will turn heads on any street in London. No mean feat. Sharp lines with exaggerated sizes to bring men’s suits into the 21st century, with a nod to past excesses. Their first catwalk show in their 99 years. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but those looking to make their mark.
Lanvin Louis Vuitton
Kim Jones presented an African inspired collection for spring summer this year, with a nod to British punk. He also revisited his work with the Chapman brothers with safari animals luggage twinned with silk shirts. Louis Vuitton still ahead of the game at Paris fashion week.
Loose casual popstar chic, the “I look great with no effort” but a bank balance to envy. Multi layered outfits, contrasting colours, tones and textures. Probably some of the most flattering outfits at the shows. Little touches included belt loops and coloured laces to draw the eye, whilst underpinning the clever accessorising that really make these outfits stand out.
Bottega Veneta
Designer Tomas Maier presented paperbag trousers and a pink tracksuit, but perhaps the most interesting was his cool blue look coat with matching bag for those that see the spring as an occasion to finally ditch the black and bring some colour back.
