P

ublic Transportation Safety, International (est. 1995), is pleased to announce that

STN, leading publication, will inform readers as to the second city to adopt use of MDZ Shield.

pending approval from California Highway Patrol headquarters in Sac- ramento, Hesperia USD, California will be first in the nation to specify the MDZ Shield on new school bus orders. PTS is the sole manufacturer of the S-1 GARD, which is a danger zone deflector mounted in front of the right dual wheels that acts as a phyical barrier preventing injury or death. Te GARD has been deployed on transit buses in several major cities including Washington DC, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, as well as airports and the country’s largest theme park. While they await endorsement from CHP, Hesperia officials have the opportunity to evaluate the MDZ

Shield at no cost, which eliminates the two foot “danger zone” gap at the right rear wheel well of school buses. Te Shield is a non-passive device, unlike passive devices such as detection systems, mirrors, video monitoring, and audio warnings. As the neighboring state of Nevada has seen five fatalities stemming from this danger zone in the past twelve years (not including injuries), such a proactive step towards improving child safety is both crucial and time- ly. A municipality of San Bernardino County, which is the largest in the U.S, Hesperia has the honor of being the nation’s vanguard in this critical advancement for school bus safety.
