Monarch extends Sharm cancellation until February

Monarch has cancelled all flight bookings to Sharm el-Sheikh until February 9. The carrier had hoped to resume flights from October 30 for this winter. It is still taking bookings from February 10 to the end of April 2017, but will review this in the coming weeks. The move came despite new prime minister Theresa May discussing efforts to improve security at Sharm el-Sheikh airport with Egypt’s President Sisi last week.

Amie Keeley and Phil Davies

Tui, Thomas Cook, Kuoni and Jet2 helped organise beach cleans that saw a record amount of rubbish collected as part of this year’s Make Holidays Greener month in July.

More than 6,000kg of waste was

collected by almost 2,000 people during the campaign – double the amount collected in 2015. A total of 125 beach cleans were

organised in 23 countries and included 68 Travelife-certified hotels. More beach cleans are planned for August and September. Make Holidays Greener is

now in its seventh year having been launched by the Travel Foundation. It was set up following the success of a trade-focused campaign that saw thousands of agents and operator staff undergo online training in sustainability. As well as beach cleans, the campaign, which is now managed by Abta, has turned its focus on consumers and seen more than 700 holidaymakers make green
