Town Talk Christmas is coming!


CHRISTMAS in Snodland was, once again, a huge success. The Scouts and stall holders took


over the High Street end of the car park Father Christmas gave out gifts to a large number of children in his


grotto in the cricket club pavilion and FatherChristmas andCllrMark Rhodes, the Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, arrived on their sleigh in the High Street to turn on the Christmas lights – a few seconds late!!

Town’s farewell to councillor Anne By-election call


ABOUT 300 people attended Anne Moloney's memorial service at All Saints’ Church, Snodland. Attendees in- cluded the for- mer MP, Sir John Stanley and his wife, Lady Eliza- beth, MP Tracey Crouch, Mark Rhodes, Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling, Kent County Councillor Sarah Hohler and borough council leader


Nicholas Heslop. The service was officiated by the Rev Hugh Broad- bent, Rector of Snodland. Following the welcome and opening prayer, Barry Moloney, Anne's brother, who lives in Canada, read the Joyce Grenfell monologue. Further contributions at the serv-


ice were made by Anne’s sister-in- law,Margaret Moloney, her cousin, Carol Edgoose, and her nephew Mark Moloney. Reflecting on her political career, Sir John Stanley spoke about

Anne's "tireless work" in Snodland as a town and borough councillor. His closing comment quoted the town council which had said that Anne was the instigator of nearly everything that happened in Snod- land, at town and borough council level.


Later, at the reception held at the community centre, Barry Moloney thanked everyone for attending, to the people who had helped him when he arrived in the country and Dylis Crook for providing the catering.

A BY-ELECTION has been called for January 19 to fill the Snodland West seat on the town council caused by the death of Anne Moloney (66), of Sharnal Lane. Karen Sowten, chief executive of


the council, said the council regret- ted there was going to be a by- election as members would have preferred a co-option. The election will cost £8,500 but 10 residents had put their signatures forward asking for a by-election. Nominations must be with Ton-


bridge and Malling Borough Coun- cil between December 13 and 20.
