Entry Requirements


You should have achieved at least: a pass grade in OCR Cambridge National Certificate in Business and Enterprise; a pass grade in BTEC Business; a Grade C in GCSE Business or Grade C in IT. In addition, at least a Grade 5 in English Language and mathematics.


Why study BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business


This BTEC course would suit students who are interested in learning about the business sector. Students will learn about the purposes of different businesses and their structure, how a marketing campaign is developed, the importance of personal and business finance and how the recruitment process is carried out in a business.


The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with academics to ensure that it supports progression to higher education. Employers and professional bodies have been involved and consulted in order to confirm that the content is appropriate and consistent with current practice for learners planning to enter employment directly in the business sector or go onto higher education.


This course is equivalent to 1 GCE A-level and will take place over a two year period. The examining body is Edexcel.


What will I study? The learning programme covers the following compulsory content areas: Business Environments Finance Marketing


The optional units have been designed to support choices in progression to business, higher education and to link with relevant occupational areas.


How is the course assessed?


In order to successfully achieve this qualification, students will need to complete all four units. Assessment is through a mixture of external examination, controlled assessments and course work.


The externally assessed elements are worth 58% of the overall marks. 18


On successful completion of the course students will achieve the qualification at a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* level.


1. Exploring Business


Assessment: written coursework. Worth 90 marks. Internally assessed.


2. Developing a Marketing Campaign


Assessment: a synoptic exam. Worth 90 marks. Externally assessed.


3. Personal and Business Finance


Assessment: written examination. Worth 120 marks. Externally assessed.


8. The Recruitment and Selection Process


Assessment: written coursework Worth 60 marks. Internally assessed.
