garden at the back of the house, where Maria has a patio with a table for al fresco dining. She has also made a cosy, sheltered seating area below her kitchen window, under the extending overhang of the building, with lights strung above it for atmosphere at night.

The use of large expanses of glass, particularly at the back of the property, give a light and airy feel to the rooms, which are all painted white, providing a blank canvas for Maria and Millie’s personal decorative touches. The open plan kitchen/dining area is partly divided from the living area by a central fireplace with a modern, dual-facing wood burner in it. I waxed it and had glass made to put on top of it and it is a handy place to store lots of books.” Alongside the coffee table Maria has placed an eye- catching rug, which she found in Hereford Market and she has a bit of a stag and deer theme going on, particularly in this room, where it is reflected in her choice of cushions, ornaments and pictures.

From the kitchen a stylish oak staircase leads up to four bedrooms and the family bathroom. The master bedroom has a beautiful oak floor and deep wardrobes. There’s a stunning en-suite and a sliding door to a sunny balcony looking out over the garden below and the Lugg Meadows beyond. Maria chose a neutral, linen look for the headboard and cushions and
