I’m curious about how you feel about the process for releasing new music. Do you feel like having web access and the streaming process is a good thing or a bad thing? It’s awesome for us as consumers and music listeners. But I feel like it’s challenging for those who are wanting to monetize that. That includes artists, labels and anybody involved, anyone on the side of making music. It’s a challenging time for things like that. Tell me about what you’re hoping to communi- cate with this new album. It’s been a fair amount of time since your last release, so I’m interested to know what this means to you. I want people to see my passion. My crazy, unapologetic, intense love for music and that I feel that this is what I think I’m supposed to be doing with my life. I hope that this is the beginning, the laying of the foundation for the rest of my career. Really, I just hope that people just feel the soul behind it. Is that part of why you chose the title,Mad Love? Mad Love because it feels like the last few years

for me. Because, you have to be a little bit crazy and very passionate in order to follow what it is that you

love. There are a couple other reasons too: I love that song on the album and another is that at the end of every conversation I would have with my father, he would say, “I love you madly.” So in thinking of that, it sort of tied it up so perfectly. It was just the right name and the right spirit to usher the music back in. If there is anyone I would apply the moniker of old soul to, it would be you. You have managed to turn some very intense challenges into a positive thing. Have you always been that type of person? I don’t think I’ve always been that kind of person.

I think that I realized that we have choices and that I have a choice to fall into moments of sadness and depression. There are of course things that you can’t help and that you need to seek help with. I believe in using those resources to get yourself out and lift yourself up. I believe we have a choice to see the opportunities and the things we should appreciate about each moment. I’ve read a lot of self-help books, have talked to

a lot of people and I have faith. I have people who help me through, but, I don’t think I’ve always been that way. I’ve certainly fallen into very dark, sad moments, when I’m feeling a certain way, but for

the most part I know that I have the right to shift my perspective. Thank you for all your support for the LGBT community. Can you talk about what you feel the connection is and why it’s so strong? Oh my goodness. It’s been such a journey and

it has been amazing. I feel so much love from the LGBT community and for the community and how they are fighting to be themselves. Not necessarily for everyone to accept, but definitely for fairness, equality and the right to live out loud. I think maybe we understand each other for those reasons. Maybe too, it’s also because they love a diva, or a big voice. (Laughs) I’m definitely here to bring that! I look forward to seeing what you bring over the next ten years, I predict it is going to be amazing. Joel, thank you so much for that.
