time goes on, there are more and more op- portunities to become a bet- ter person and much more well-rounded. T e fi rst im- portant mode of self im- provement for me seems to be to continuous- ly learn how to become a bet- ter communi- cator because along with just being upbeat isn’t enough. With this column I have, I am
able to use my words in such a way that allows me to share with people I do not know, and that I have not met, a little in- sight to who I am and what I am about. T e challenging part is to remain with-in walls of comprehension for all who read this. To communicate to them in terms of logic, compassion, empathy and overall sincerity. In life, I have noticed the

umns dedicated to the positive benefi ts of clear and confi dent communication mixed with the infectious enthusiasm for life. I personally attempt to use it at all times. In this new frontier of digital mass forms of commu- nication, texting, E-mails etcet- era, it is easy to get lost in it all. It is easier now than ever not to personally have to talk to some- one in person. Articles upon articles are now being written about this separation of people and electronic digital commu- nication devices and the dis-
ruption of personal contact. I enjoy all the digital mecha-
nisms that are available as tools to enhance communications, but not as the main vehicle for my verbal commute. In a solid eff ort to grow the pa-
per, I have reached out to peo- ple who are on the fence about why they should be a part of Upbeat Times. I used to think I had no competition, but I think I have more than I thought. Not other papers or radio, but digital programs such as online music services such as Pan- dora, Instagram, Twitter, Face- book. I am on all of those now, but I don’t respond to ads that way. I look at printed material
media and sometimes on the web. It is where they can see it. Radio is great, but you can’t see any- thing. I want to see what I am purchasing fi rst...a clear visual. If I am online, all the
ads kind of get in the way(this is just me). I’ve been asking people for the last many years if this is also a challenge to them, and the overall consensus is a ... continued on page 11
