UPBEAT TIMES, INC. • September 2016 • 21 Local Santa Rosan Myra Galt Keeps The Upbeat Positive Action Of Helping Others The Punitentiary #2
Santa Rosa, CA. ~ Publishers Note: Recently, we we’re contacted by a very nice group of dedicated specialists who felt that the Upbeat Times would be a perfect place to reach out & ‘edu- cate’ the readers about programs available to the families of the dis- abled, down syn- drome individuals and seniors who may need hospice or late life care & more. The fi nan- cial burden and stresses can be very hard on the families that care for these individu-
als. Myra is a very passionate and dedicated local mom & grandma that has gone up to bat for people in need and some that were stuck in the system with no help at all after applying for fi nancial assistance. Here is a brief story from her. You can contact her by looking at the back page ad. The offi ce informa- tion is there for you. We thank her for what she does…helping people who really are in need!

8 littles. I have also been blessed to be the foster parent to 8 children over the years. My third born, Ryan, was born with many dif- ferent medical anomalies. His 18 years on this earth was diffi cult for him and us. He suffered through 30 serious surger- ies and hundreds’ of hospitaliza- tions. His mind was spared, and so we were able to enjoy a beauti- ful guy. He loved the 49ers and the Giants! We were very fortunate to
have him for 18 years. He passed away on July 4, 2004, his day of independence from his suffering. Soon after losing Ryan, I learned
of state and federally funded pro- grams that would have helped greatly while I cared for Ryan. Somehow, I had never heard about these valuable programs! I de- cided to study the laws and regula- tions that mandate federal and state funded programs. I attended semi- nars, and workshops and met with the managers of such programs. I worked under a local attorney for 6 years. In 2008, I began work- ing professionally helping families who needed these valuable pro- grams. In 2010, I opened my own
fi rm The Galt Advocacy. We now serve families all over the state of California. Truly I feel I have been very fortunate and honored to do this work! Last year I was able to join a small, but special group, who go to Sacramento regularly to meet with the presiding administrative law judges for the state of Califor- nia.
These judges rule on matters regarding denials of state funded services by the counties. I found this group to be very concerned about the poor, the disabled and the needy of our state.
I also discovered that they re- ally enjoy hearing from me about what is going on with my “boots on the ground” work with these needy families. I am also very glad to be invited by the Upbeat Times to tell my story(s)!
Because of my work with these judges, they then gave me the con- fi dence to connect with the pro- gram directors for each of the state programs such as IHSS, Medi-Cal.
