Day 2. Amsterdam, Netherlands - 6 January With miles of serene, tree-lined canals mirroring countless gabled 17th and 18th century townhouses, Amsterdam is a delight.


Day 7. Ponta Delgada, Azores - 11 January Capital of São Miguel, and largest of the nine islands in the Azores, Ponta Delgada, with beautiful churches, and public buildings with white-painted facades, is charming. Discover the island’s extraordinary natural beauty.


Day 14. Bridgetown, Barbados - 18 January The capital of Barbados, Bridgetown typifies our idea of the classic West Indian island like no other. The isle has a beautiful interior dotted with gardens and wild surf on the lonely east coast. The atmosphere is distinctly British - you’ll even find a Trafalgar Square with a statue of Nelson.


Day 16. Willemstad, Curaçao - 20 January Willemstad, with its colourful and well preserved Dutch architecture, has long-since been a favourite port-of-call in the Caribbean. The city itself is large and sprawling, but the old town has many museums and activities well worth a visit. Sample the distinctive blue liqueur of Curaçao.


Day 17. Oranjestad, Aruba - 21 January Miles of the best beaches and a compact main town makes Aruba a favourite. Boutiques, upscale chain stores and street vendors, as well as casinos and a wide range of restaurants and bars, leave you no end of options to fill your day.

Day 23. Acapulco, Mexico - 27 January Once the playground for the rich and famous, and dubbed the ‘Pearl of the Pacific’ in its heyday, Acapulco remains gorgeous. Visit romantic cliff-side restaurants, the impressive 17th century fort, a world-class botanical garden or the old town’s charming shady zócalo (plaza).


Day 32. Nuku Hiva, Marquesas Islands - 5 February Nuku Hiva is situated on the north-western tip of Marquesas in French Polynesia. A huge island with dramatic landscapes; deep bays blessed with Robinson Crusoe–like beaches, dramatic waterfalls and timeless valleys.


Day 35. Papeete, Tahiti - 8 February A modern and bustling town, Papeete is the capital of Tahiti (often called the ‘Island of Love’), and largest of the French Polynesian islands. Visit the Paul Gaugin museum, Point Venus, the Botanical Gardens and Maraa Fern Grotto.


Day 36. Bora Bora, French Polynesia - 9 February A dreamlike setting, Bora Bora is a ring of sand-edged motu (islets) encircling a glinting turquoise lagoon surrounded by rainforest-covered peaks. Diving, snorkelling, lagoon tours, hiking and parasailing are readily available, but it’s the iconic over-the-water bungalows with piers reaching out like tentacles into the lagoon that Bora Bora is world-famous for.

Day 43. Auckland, New Zealand - 16 February Auckland is an archaeological wonder with two ancient rain forest covered mountain ranges. A blend of Polynesian culture and modern city environment has created a lifestyle ranked amongst the best in the world.


Day 44. Wellington, New Zealand - 18 February The cultural capital of New Zealand, Wellington is home to an astonishing number of art galleries, libraries and museums. Begin taking in this compact city with a ride from the city centre on the Kelburn Cable Car to the top of the Botanical Gardens. Te Papa Tangarewa museum provides an insight into the country's people and culture.


Day 50-51. Sydney, Australia - 23 – 24 February Approached through its striking harbour with the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge, Sydney is Australia's most cosmopolitan city. Explore the sites around the harbour where you’ll find the Customs House and the Museum of Contemporary Art. The narrow streets and alleyways of this area contain many historic buildings, pubs, restaurants and shops.


Day 54. Hamilton Island, Whitsunday Islands - 27 February Part of the Whitsunday Group, Hamilton Island is a lovely resort. There’s something for everyone - with a marina, shops, restaurants and water sports. Be sure to take the optional boat trip to the breathtaking Whitehaven Beach.


Day 55. Townsville, Australia - 28 February Sprawling beneath a brooding red hill, Townsville has a lot to offer; excellent museums, a huge aquarium, world-class diving and an endless esplanade. A pedestrian-friendly city, it’s easy to take in the grand, 19th century landmarks.


Day 56-57. Cairns for Great Barrier Reef, Australia - 1 – 2 March Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns lies on Trinity Bay in far north Queensland. The city's historic museum reveals the traditions of the ancient Aboriginal tribes. The meticulously maintained boardwalk, esplanade and lagoon are well loved, while the Great Barrier Reef is never far away.


Day 61. Darwin, Australia - 6 March The capital city of the Northern Territory, Darwin, offers many sights from its colonial past. Innovative museums celebrate the city's past with galleries showcasing the region's rich indigenous art. Nature is well and truly part of Darwin's backyard − the famous national parks of Kakadu and Litchfield are nearby.


Day 64. Komodo, Indonesia – 9 March Home to the infamous Komodo Dragon, spectacular Komodo has well maintained paths and treks that, with the help of a guide (essential), will allow you to explore the island and see the Komodo Dragon relaxing in its own habitat. The guides have great knowledge of the dragons and the island’s flora and fauna.


Day 65-66. Bali, Indonesia - 10 - 11 March Gateway to the mystical island of Bali, Benoa Harbour is ideally located close to Nusa Dua Beach and the capital, Denpasar. Nusa Dua is known for its clean white beaches and clear waters. Nearby are the other two major beach areas on Bali, Sanur and Kuta, the latter of which is a thriving tourist resort.


Day 68. Semarang, Java - 13 March Divided into two areas, Semarang is the capital of Central Java. The Old Town includes Dutch-style buildings, the Gereja Blenduk and a copper-domed church. Chinatown is a maze of alleys and shops with the Tay Kak Sie Temple at its centre. Or opt for an excursion to the 1,200 year old Borobudur Temple – one of Southeast Asia’s most spectacular sites.


Day 71. Muara for Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei - 16 March The understated capital of Brunei, Bandar is home to Istana Nurul Ima, the stunning residential palace of the Sultan and the Omar Ali Saifuddie. Visit the Royal Regalia Museum near the city centre and Kampong Ayer (water village), which can be visited by taxi boat and where the friendly village people open their homes to visitors.


Day 72. Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, Borneo - 17 March Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Malaysia’s Sabah state in Borneo, is a coastal city partly surrounded by rainforest, it is known for its bustling markets, modern boardwalk, beaches and Kota Kinabalu City Mosque. It is also a gateway to Kinabalu National Park, the home of Mount Kinabalu.


Day 74. Manila, Philippines - 19 March This city has endured every disaster man and nature has thrown at it, yet today, the capital of the Philippines, whose moniker is ‘pearl of the orient’, is a thriving chaotic metropolis with outstanding sightseeing opportunities. Discover Manila’s creative soul – from edgy galleries to a lively indie music scene. From Manila you can also visit the Malacanang Palace, Pagsanjan Falls and Taal volcano.


Day 76-77. Hong Kong, China - 21 – 22 March The city boasts a vibrant cultural scene that features the influences of its Chinese roots and colonial connections. Take the tram up to Victoria Peak where you’ll get a spectacular 360-degree view of the island. Board one of Hong Kong's fabled sampan boats for a cruise through the bustling harbour. In Kowloon see the Chi Lin Nunnery, Nan Lian Garden and bustling Nathan Road.


Day 79. Halong Bay for Hanoi, Vietnam - 24 March Halong Bay, rests beautifully over the Red River Delta on the coast of Vietnam. From here, visitors can travel inland to the politically historic, Hanoi, one of the country's most fascinating cities. The most renowned monuments are the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the austere former residence of the revolutionary leader. Visit the Temple dedicated to Confucianism and explore the Old Quarter.


Day 81. Chan May for Da Nang, Vietnam - 26 March Chan My, on the coast of Vietnam, gives access to the city of Da Nang, the centre of the ancient Central Champa Kingdom. You'll find gleaming new hotels, apartments and restaurants as you stroll along the Han riverfront. Visit the Cham museum and ancient monuments including the Cham Towers.


Day 83-84. Phu My for Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam - 28 – 29 March Still commonly referred to as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City has driven the country forward with its pulsating energy. Wander through timeless alleys to incense- infused temples before catching up with the present in designer malls. The real beauty is this city’s blend of two worlds into one thrilling, seething mass. A host of exhilarating tours get you way off-the-beaten track.
