Bristol leads the way in digital innovation


Bristol has been named as the UK’s top smart city outside London and the only regional centre classified as a leader for digital innovation. The Smart Cities Index, compiled by


Chinese information and communications giant Huawei, found that Bristol and London are leading the way in implementing significant projects at both the pilot and full- scale levels. The Smart Cities Index celebrates best


practice and identifies challenges which the centres need to be overcome to become smarter. The report cites Bristol’s strengths in open data access, energy innovation and community engagement. Gordon Luo, CEO of Huawei UK, said:


“Bristol is a city that is driving the UK’s digital agenda, highlighted by its pioneering smart cities innovations.”

South West food and drink companies are making a splash in Copenhagen

nterprise Europe Network (EEN) South West is helping South West food and drink companies to identify


opportunities in the Nordic countries. Fifty businesses interested in entering this


market attended an event organised by EEN SW at Bordeaux Quay in April. Attendees heard from Anders Skeem a


Danish EEN international business adviser, on the various differences between the countries, cultures, priorities and meeting etiquette giving delegates excellent insight on how to prepare for and succeed in these markets and avoid the pitfalls. Tim Harrap from Lyecross Farm, a local family


run cheese producer who’ve achieved considerable growth from export sales to over 30 countries, provided first hand experience of dealing with buyers in the Nordic countries and gave some useful advice on the importance of doing research, understanding the people, being

three meetings booked but ended up meeting other buyers who saw and tasted our products. The buyers were really receptive and we left feeling confident that we will be able to secure some business in the future. We also met lots of other producers and made some brilliant international contacts.”
