MESSAGE FROM MEMBERSHIP

BY PHIL BRIDGEMAN MEMBERSHIP MANAGER AT BUSINESS WEST

There are plenty of opportunities coming up in the summer months to make the most out of your membership. We’ve got networking events

coming up in impressive venues over the summer, such as Bordeux Quay on Bristol’s Harbourside, Kingswood School Sports Pavillion in Bath and Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa in Wiltshire. Full details are in the events and training page later in the magazine. In case you missed it in the local

papers and radio, our Energise Your Future Careers fair was a resounding success. As part of the British Chamber Your

Future initiative which is improving education and business ties across the country, we brought 600 students to the South Gloucestershire and Stroud’s Berkeley Science and Technology Park to meet local firms and raise awareness of jobs and careers in the South West. As always, for more information

on how to get involved and raise your profile, including how to get your latest news featured in the magazine, contact me on via phil.bridgeman@businesswest.co.uk or give the membership team a call on 0800 980 2789.

Charity efforts add up for Hazlewoods

Community-spirited staff members at Hazlewoods, the Gloucestershire-based accountants and business advisors, have given a tremendous boost to Stroud Women’s Refuge thanks to a series of fundraising events. Not content with the efforts of the last 12

months, they have now announced a new Hazlewoods Charity of the Year, Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, which will also benefit from further fundraising in 2016-17. The Hazlewoods team raised a fantastic

£13,600 for the Women’s Refuge run by Stroud Beresford Group, which has been offering accommodation, advice and support to families affected by domestic abuse for over 35 years. The money raised by Hazlewoods staff

members has already been put to good use, paying for new bright, welcoming furniture for children, helping them to feel more at ease as they settle into the refuge. Refuge manager Jill Cooper said: “We will use

the funding to improve the environment within the refuge, helping to make sure it is warm and inviting when families arrive. “We are so grateful to everyone at Hazlewoods

who put in a tremendous amount of time, energy and hard earned funds towards our charity within the last year. The efforts of Hazlewoods staff help families who stay in the refuge to realise they have the support of the local community behind them and the legacy of this funding will help families in the refuge for many years.”
