I am so excited to be part of this publication and happy you
have chosen to read this magazine! I chose to work with Es- sential Living Maine because I believe in the mission and want to be part of the movement of helping Mainers live a longer, happier, healthier life. My journey to here has been an interest- ing one and my real motivation of why I want to be part of this movement is because of my father. My father was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes twenty years ago and over the years I
watched him get sicker and sicker to the point where he was taking over 30 prescription and non-prescription pills a day. He was always reactive instead of proactive about his health. Te information he would receive from medical experts was confusing to him so it was just easier to take a pill and use insulin twice a day than it was to try and adjust his way of living. Over the years he de- veloped heart disease which required two open heart surgeries; suffered strokes; was hospitalized for numerous blood infections and then diagnosed with colon cancer in early 2015. At that time, I learned he hadn’t had a colonoscopy in over 30 years because it wasn’t a priority to him or his doctor. During 2015 and into 2016 my father’s cancer spread and unfortunately he passed away March 12th. For the past few years I have repeatedly said, “I wish there was something I could do to help him and other people understand that it isn’t difficult to be healthy.” Tat’s when Essential Living Maine came into my life. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and what we think about we bring about. I am honored to be part of Essential Living Maine’s mission and am making it my personal mission to connect the resources and information in our local area to people who are looking to make some better choices for their own lives. I hope you enjoy our magazine and are able to gain some valuable insight to help guide you!
