RAINBOW PROM For many of us, proms weren’t typically the place at which great memories
were produced, because of intolerance and fear. But, as Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland once said, “It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.” The times have thankfully changed, but still, there are many who don’t gaze back on that particular high school “rite of passage” with fondness. So, get ready to create some new memories! The Hillcrest Youth Center (HYC) is creating a new experience, just as they have
COMIC-CON Why is that helmeted man with a cape with the intensely magnetic personality
wandering the streets of Downtown San Diego? Why is there a bat-eared, caped crusader and a dude in red and blue tights, fighting as they float over the conven- tion center downtown? Is it a bird? Or an invisible plane? Wait, is that Wonder Woman I see? Why the hell are there four full-sized turtles working the corner of 5th and L Street? Just when we thought we’d rid the downtown streets of all the zombies, witches and devils, along with various other costumed creatures, cavorting through the Gaslamp... Yep, Comic-Con 2016 has returned! The end- less and the too-numerous-to-mention superheroes, creatures and quirky char- acters have once again invaded our fair city. Comic-Con is the largest convention of its kind in the Americas and fourth largest in the world, after the Comiket in Japan, the Angoulême International Comics Festival in France and the Lucca Comics and Games in Italy. Taking place from Thursday, July 21 through Sun- day, July 24, the famed event fills to capacity Downtown San Diego’s Conven- tion Center and then some! I mean, have you been downtown and seen all the overflow at the surrounding hotels and their ballrooms? One word…Packed! In what is sure to add new meaning to “being in drag,” over 130,000 attendees touch down on “America’s Finest City” streets with their individual self-made fantasies.
