Careless flytippers left their details in rubbish

TWO men were fined in connec- tion with flytipping after council officers found names and ad- dresses in the debris. The boss of a double glazing firm

was ordered to pay almost £3,000 in fines, costs and compensation after rubbish was found dumped in Church Road, East Peckham. Thewaste (pictured) included bro-

ken doors and windows, broken glass and plastic sheeting, and a label on packaging addressed to Su- perior Windows and Doors Ltd of Crown Acres, East Peckham. Evidence found by Tonbridge and Malling Council environmental offi- cers at a second site in Postern Lane, Tonbridge, also highlighted the company, Sevenoaks magistrates were told. The firm’s owner and sole direc-

tor, Joseph Busby (30), of Crown Acres, East Peckham, admitted two charges of breach of statutory duty in relation to flytipping and was fined £750 for each offence. The court heard he had used a

third party to dispose of the com- pany’s rubbish without checking that theywere licensed and could be

trusted with the disposal of con- trolledwaste. He was also ordered to pay costs

of £1,167, compensation of £243 to cover clean-up costs and a victim surcharge of £75. In a separate case, Ross Mills (30)

was fined in connection with flytip- ping in Fartherwell Road, West Malling, after his name and address were found among domestic debris which included a large bath, tiling, painting items and packaging. The court heard he had employed someone to dispose of the rubbish after having anewkitchen and bath- room fitted at his home in Penning- ton Road, Southborough. However, he had not taken meas-

ures to ensure that theywere autho- rised to do the work. Mills had

transferred thewaste to someone he had never met before and who had contacted him through a casual con- tact he had met in a pub. He admitted a breach of statutory

duty in relation to flytipping and was fined £750 with costs of £942 and a victim surcharge of £75. He was also ordered to pay £110 to cover clean-up costs. Cllr David Lettington, Tonbridge

and Malling cabinet member for street scene and environment serv- ices, said:“We all have a duty to en- sure that any waste we produce, whether it be domestic or commer- cial, is disposed of properly. “This means that all the checks are

made to ensure that contractors are properly authorised to dispose of the wastewe are entrusting to them.”
