© Steve Menary Skonto Enterprises was set up in 1992 as the first Latvian
company, to manufacture glazed aluminium products. This was where the project team turned for the product to create the floating glass box effect. The German Schüco system was commissioned from the
Riga-based firm and will provide the key visual focus for shop- pers and travellers, particularly from the main entrance off Perrymount Road. In addition to the Waitrose store, the scheme also includes
smaller A3 and A2 retail units. On top of the actual store will be 60 car parking spaces with a Knight asphalt product specified here. Another 160 car parking spaces will also be provided on a surface level car park on the same plot. Work started on site in April 2015 with the project due
to complete in October 2016 and the store opening before Christmas. When demolition began last year, Solum Regeneration
director Simon Rutter said: “Residents have been waiting for over 30 years for something to happen here and have been hugely supportive of our plans. The regeneration around the station will benefit all station users and dramatically improve the look and feel of the surrounding area.” Pozzoni and BAM Construct will hope that is the case when the store opens at the end of this year as click and
