rom her very earliest days in the pharmacy as a young fifteen year old, Diane Bates’ mum can recall her poring over pharmacy magazines. In fact, she’d often have questions for her other team members and the pharmacist regarding conditions or treatments and particularly enjoyed reading the sections related to what other pharmacies were up to, and could often be heard trying to persuade her then manager to implement similar changes!

Little wonder then that Diane would end up as Non-Pharmacist Manager in the busy Rowlands Pharmacy in East Kilbride, where her boundless energy and enthusiasm are legendary!


Diane’s passion for pharmacy has never waned since those teenage years and, over a sustained period, she has consistently demonstrated her commitment and dedication to the profession. Not only has Diane invested heavily in her own training and development to equip her for


her roles in pharmacy, she has also invested in supporting the training of other pharmacy staff. The result? Diane is now a non-pharmacist pharmacy manager with an accredited checking pharmacy technician qualification, which is a nationally recognised qualification.


Diane initially commenced her pharmacy career as an after school/ Saturday assistant working 4-6pm three days during the week and every Saturday in the pharmacy in Renfrew


in January 2001. By August of the same year she made the decision that pharmacy was her vocation and she decided to leave school and seek full-time employment in pharmacy. By this time she’d also recognised that she had an interest in how a pharmacy business ran and where she could make an impact to improve sales or the customer experience. She therefore grasped the opportunity to take up the role of the recently vacated position. Fortunately, the pharmacist at the time spotted
