EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GETTING A MARRIAGE LICENSE


To obtain a MARRIAGE LICENSE, as of January 1, 1999 Florida residents must do one of the following: 1. Complete a 4-hour premarital course given


by a provider registered with the Clerk of Circuit Court (Florida license fee $61.00), or


2. Have a 3-day waiting period apply to your


License after submitting application to marry with the Clerk of Circuit Court (Florida license fee $93.50). Accepted forms of payment are cash. You may go online to the Brevard County Clerk of Court website, to the “Marriage License Kiosk” to do a pre-applica- tion template. This will expedite your information so that your trip to the Clerk of Court will be much more painless. Just don’t forget to bring your appli-

Once you are issued the Marriage Certificate, there is a mandatory 3 day waiting period before you can be married. The waiting period is waived for couples who complete a state sanctioned marriage counsel- ing course within the past year. Once the license is issued you have 60 days to complete the ceremony.

Following your wedding ceremony, you will receive a marriage certificate, which is a piece of paper proving that you are legally married. This certificate will serve as evidence of your marriage, which you’ll need when you begin the process of notifying several government agencies about your name change, as well as any non-government institutions that you do business with (i.e., banks, employers, credit cards, memberships, etc).
