GAUCHO Richmond
or Alfresco Dining and the finest Argentine Steaks take a stroll along the banks of the River Thames to Gaucho Richmond. Gaucho’s charming boathouse style restaurant has glass panelled walls offering panoramic views of Richmond Bridge and Petersham Meadows. In summer the waterside towpath terrace hosts an alfresco kitchen, serving seafood barbecues and the best of Argentine steak.

The interior décor is glamorous, ultra- contemporary and chic with retro white leather seating, black carpet and cow hide wall art. Service from the Gaucho girls and boys is flawless and slick. Argentines love their beef and it’s a big feature on Gaucho’s menu. Their beef comes from 45 select farms in Argentina,
and Gaucho uses a ‘wet-aging’ process to conserve the great flavour and juiciness of the meat. Alongside the spectacular steaks and burgers, there are seafood dishes but the true stars of the menu are the delicious cuts of beef presented on an impressive presentation board. Side dishes include humiota saltena served in a corn husk with sweetcorn and mozzarella, plus fat chips cooked in beef dripping.
Our wine guru matched wines for our dishes. Gaucho’s Director of wine, Phil Crozier, has built a wine list of over 200 premier Argentine wines exclusive to Gaucho, some of which he has been personally involved in creating. To start, we enjoyed a tasty Crab Tostada and Tuna Ceviche presented on
wooden boards, accompanied by Gaucho’s best-selling chilled white wine, Torrontes – floral, fresh and fabulous! For the main course we each chose a 300g Lomo fillet which was cooked to perfection, cut like butter, and served with chimichurri marinade. We both agreed it was the best steak ever. Happily we saved room for our delicious dessert, Dulche de Leche Argentinian cheesecake. To complement the meal, we savoured a famous smooth full bodied 2012 Malbec from Argentina: Vina Patricia, named by the wine maker after his wife Patsy! Gaucho is a chic spot to linger over lunch or dinner with food to impress the most discerning diner. Reserve your table at
