Poker Run
2016 marks another milestone at Captain’s Village. This Father’s Day, June 19th, is their 23rd Annual Poker Run. Registration runs from 9 to 11 am and the cost is $40 per hand and you must be 19 years old to play.
RULES, PRIZES AND LUNCH The Poker Run is an annual tradition here on Shuswap Lake. Boats of every shape and size come out to take part in this day of fun on the water. Boaters arrive at the marina in the morning for their instruc- tions and to receive their complimentary t-shirt. Once they hit the water, they must reach five different checkpoints on the lake to col- lect their cards. Once they have completed their hand of five cards, they return for the results. The first four checkpoints close at 3 p.m. and the fifth closes at 3:30 p.m.
THE FIVE CHECKPOINTS ARE: 1) Captain’s Village - flagpole 2) Wildman Rentals - Ta’Lana Bay 3) Anglemont Marina - far right dock 4) Lee Creek 5) Captain’s Village - near gas dock
Anyone wishing to participate in the Low Ball Draw for the worst pok- er hand must have their hands turned in by 2 pm. There will be a $300

cash prize for the winner. All remaining hands must be turned in by 3:45 pm with the winning hand receiving a $1,600 cash prize. Second place will win $1,000 and third place gets $600.
Poker Run partners and volunteers provide a barbecue lunch from the local Lion’s Club.
Many corporate sponsors, both local and from around Western Canada, make the day possible with cash and prize donations. All remaining funds raised will benefit various local charities.
CHARITIES’ BENEFIT Over the past 22 years, the annual Poker Run has raised in excess of $135,000 for local charities. The Parent’s Advisory Committee for the North Shuswap Elementary School and the North Shuswap Com- munity Association are among the charities that receive some of the funds earned from this event. The funds assist in acquiring musical in- struments, playground equipment and upgrades, and so much more.
Captain’s Village Marina sold out all 400 available hands last year, which enabled them to raise a record $12,475. They hope to do it again in 2016.
