A View From

Welcome to my monthly column “A view from the top”. Hopefully you will find my rambling readable (maybe even enjoyable). You may agree or you may disagree with my views, I care not. These are my views long held and forged over a life time of work, travel and experience. Now that’s over let’s have a look at what is really winding me up.

Town Planning Fiasco. On a number of occasions over the past

few years of my ramblings I have often spoken of how much I enjoy the outdoor life here in Spain. I have also mentioned that I also enjoy window shopping… with this in mind I decided to have a look see at the new shopping centre in Quesada. I decided to take the car as the knee was playing up and the walk would have been several steps too far. I arrived in Quesada …lovely entrance through the Arches and proceeded along the high street intending to park as close as I could to the bars and shops to start my shopping spree. Up the road

QF Focus Magazine

I drove…no parking spaces available…back down the road, only this time not only was parking a no go but the road itself was like driving on a dodgem track….stop …start combined with several “in out” swerves to avoid upcoming traffic. Cars parked on the diagonal in parking spaces that take up a good portion of the road space available. This diagonal parking coupled with the fact that cars are all of differing lengths makes the drive down the road very difficult. Why would the powers that be allow a new shopping centre to be built in an already overcrowded high street without first making sure that parking was adequate? I understand that the new centre has an underground car park, however the entrance to the said car park is opposite one of the most popular shops in Quesada - the lotto and tobacco shop which itself commands lots of car traffic. Now I really do enjoy Quesada high street but why oh why wasn’t due consideration given to a full re-development of the traffic management via some form of pedestrian precinct with traffic routed around the outside of the busy centre? Maybe I am a little previous with my critical comments…maybe all is in hand… and maybe there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Naked Ambition. Not many things trouble me

…not many things make me doubt my optimistic view of the world and not many things give me cause to worry about the inherent general goodness of the human race. As a codicil to my last remarks however I should point out that I do not generally include politicians as being “of the human race”…No rather I view them as one should view one's shoe after you have stepped in a pile of dog poo…
