AOMORI NEBUTA FESTIVAL

Aomori, the capital city of Honshu’s northeastern prefecture, is a gateway to such tourist spots as the Hakkoda mountains, hot spring spas, Lake Towada, and many others. Summer in Aomori is highlighted by the famous Nebuta Festival. This is one of Japan’s three greatest fire festivals. Giant floats as high as five meters and as wide as nine meters, are pulled through the main streets of Aomori City. It also features more than 200,000 Haneto dancers and musicians to celebrate the northern country’s short summer.

The Nebuta Festival attracts more than three million visitors from all over the country. The festival runs from 2 - 7 August.
