Annual Spring Guide 2016 Wonderful Memories

Kenwood, CA. ~ For the last twenty five years, my backyard has been the hopping ground of many a rabbit. Tere have been, just to name a few: Strawberry, Black- berry, Blueberry, Cookie, Biscuit, Muffin, Fiver, Pou- pon, Blue Bonnet, and Mazeltov. Tere’s something inherently silly yet heart warming about a rab- bit’s long ears. You can always make young children laugh by wiggling your hands by the side of your head. A bunny’s meager cotton tail is the perfect counterpart to those ridicu- lous receptors. It’s a delight to watch rabbits lope about, goof- ily winding up as they put on a great show of zigzags, speed, and dash. When you are im- patiently trying to get them back into their pens, they will tilt their heads, and naughtily pause and scratch the back of their ears with their hind legs. Tey can also transform them- selves into regal archetypes as they sit in statuesque Rabbit

from a distance of six feet and land on another rab- bit during terrible bunny battles. Tey give an aw- ful

scream when

in fear or pain and sometimes snore when sleeping. Most rab- bits, once they get to know you, enjoy having their foreheads and backs rubbed. My earliest and favorite rabbit

was Bun Bun. Abandoned by a busy previous owner, he was a plain, homely white rabbit. Bun Bun would make little grunting noises as he followed me about like a dog while I gardened. I could easily turn him on his back and rub his stomach. He was sweetly affectionate and cuddly. He was unusual in that he didn’t like rabbit food, he only ate grass, weeds, and an occasional banana treat. When I brought him home,

he got along famously with my golden retrievers, Cream Puff and her son Wilbur. Bun Bun would suffer Wilbur to bound up to him, give him a thorough sniffing and then proceed to lick his entire head covering it with saliva. Oſten Wilbur tipped him over with his enthusiastic slurps. But as far as Bun Bun was concerned, these wolfish creatures were no more threat- ening than the sparrows that flitted about the trees. We spent many tranquil hours together sitting on the grass— Bun Bun on my lap with the dogs pant- ing affably by my side. Bun Bun had one close call through the

when he broke

grating of the crawl space un- der my house and survived for two days without food or wa- ter. I finally found him and was able to tempt him to creep up and out as he followed a carrot tied to a string draped on a long plank. Like all our favorite friends

and pets in life, they eventually pass on and we take and cher- ish the many wonderful memo- ries and moments forever!

Popular Annadel Half Marathon And 5K Set For April 2! Entry Fees Support Trails At Annadel

And Taylor Mountain

Santa Rosa, CA. ~ April 2 marks the 7th anniversary of the An- nadel Half Marathon, one of the most popular trail races in So- noma County. Two footraces will start from the Spring Lake Swim- ming Lagoon beginning at 8 a.m. that day. Te Half Marathon is a tough course with over 1,500 feet of elevation on rocky terrain, while the easier 5k is an out-and- back course that starts at Spring Lake and turns around at Spring Creek Trail in Annadel. Te rela- tively flat 5k is particularly well suited for families, walkers, and moderate runners. Te Half Marathon continues to

raise funds to maintain the trails at Annadel State Park. Entry fees from the 5k support the Sonoma County Regional Parks Founda- tion, which is raising money to build new trails at Taylor Moun- tain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve.

Farmed fish include: Catfish, salmon, striped bass, rainbow trout, sturgeon, tilapia, carp, crawfish, shrimp, oysters, mussels, and clams.

About 50% of world fish production is farmed.

During the Tang Dynasty (around 900 A.D.) the Chinese were ‘farming’ fish exclusively for the emperor’s consumption. Some sources date the beginnings of Chinese fish farming as far back as 3,500 years ago.

Today China farms more freshwater fish than any other country.
