Celebrating success and aspiration, with a new focus

The 2016 Women in Business Awards launches this month, with categories and criteria decided, sponsors on board, and the website opening for nominations. More importantly still, the 2016 initiative has a fresh injection of meaning and direction

w • Rising Star

• Woman Business Owner of the Year

• Board Level & Senior Executive of the Year

In its fourth year, Women in Business 2016 draws on invaluable experience gleaned from the past three events – and the reasons are clearer; the goals and objectives more sharply defined.

Its purpose is to celebrate, encourage and inspire successful and aspiring business women in the south, and it is already the most prestigious awards event recognising the role of women in the region’s business calendar.

This initiative is not about the exclusion of men, but the inclusion of women. It celebrates individuals and organisations that have excelled in their specific business, profession or organisation.

Tamsin Napier-Munn of The Business Magazine, which hosts the event, explains: “This is a campaign acknowledging the real value that diversity can add to our businesses through productivity and profitability.

“It’s about recognising that, although men and women should be seen and treated as equals, we are in fact different, and valuing these real differences between us – if identified and proactively managed – can achieve better results and greater success for everyone.”

This year’s Awards comprise six categories which aim to spotlight a diverse range of successful people, including: the woman entrepreneur, rising stars, senior partners/ managers and board directors, as well as the men who have enabled and supported their progress.

The categories, listed right, have been decided by award sponsors: Barclays, business development company Clarify, and law firm Blake Morgan, together with The Business Magazine.

In all categories, judges will be looking for individuals and companies that have made a real difference to the role of women in business over the past 12 months. They should also have their headquarters or principal trading office based in the Thames Valley or Solent & South Coast region.

Entrants can self-nominate or be nominated by work colleagues, customers, suppliers or other associates.

The website will be open for entries from March 12, and entries close on June 17.
