10 news Shareleague Thames Valley Presented by in association with Business T H E M A G A Z I N E

KBC Advanced Technologies, which provides consulting and software services to the energy and process industries, stole the spotlight in the latest share price league for the region’s quoted companies. In a month when no other company managed more than a 10% rise in a fairly negative period, the Walton-on- Thames headquartered group saw its share price rise 35%.

The reason was an agreed cash acquisition of KBC by ATI Global Optimisation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aspen Technology. KBC’s share capital was valued at £158 million, a premium of 49.2% on the closing share price of 124p on January 11, the day before the announcement.

Chairman Ian Godden said: “Over the past few years KBC has proactively reshaped and broadened its business to make it more adaptable and successful. We have continued to

perform well notwithstanding the challenging operating conditions in the hydrocarbon industry. In the current market environment, however, we believe there are advantages in being part of a larger, broader and better capitalised group.”

Cardiff Property, the Egham- based company specialising in property investment and development in the Thames Valley, saw its shares rise 10%. Its portfolio under management, valued in excess of £37m, is primarily located close to Heathrow and in Surrey and Berkshire.

Chairman Richard Wollenberg, commenting on good results for the year ending September, said: “Confidence in the Thames Valley property market continued to improve during the year under review.”

THE BUSINESS MAGAZINE – THAMES VALLEY – MARCH 2016 Young entrepreneur

competition launches Chartered accountants Haines Watts launched its Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition on March 1, so share the news

2015’s finalists with some of the HWYE judges

Applicants will have the opportunity to join with fellow young entrepreneurs from around the Thames Valley area (including Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey) in competing for a place in the HWYE finals on November 17.

Jane Gregory, a judge at the HWYE competition, said: “Previous HWYE applicants have told us that young entrepreneurs need support as their businesses 'take off', as well as greater publicity, and the 2016 HWYE prizes reflect this.”

• The overall Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur of the Year will win a fantastic and useful set of prizes worth up to £5,000*, which makes the competition well worth entering. This includes a year-long mentoring and support programme with a partner from Haines Watts, free publicity and a total cash prize of £1000.

• Each winning local business attending the finals on November 17 will receive a cash prize of £250, a year- long mentoring programme with a partner from Haines Watts and free publicity.

To enter (totally free), go online at www.hwye.co.uk and provide some details about your business and why it should win. Applicants must have been in business for over a year and live or work in the Thames Valley. The competition is open to anyone who is under 36 years old on July 31, 2016 and there is no lower age limit.

Last year’s finalists were Nick Coleman and Udhi Silva of Medical Supermarket, who won the overall title; Georgina Bullen of Team Insight; Mark Rose with Boosh365; Marc Ayres of BookMarc and Julianne Ponan of Creative Nature.

It could be you – or someone you know – this year, so remember to share the news.
