day at the races showcases the thrill of watching top class equine and human athletes pushing themselves to their limit plus the fun of choosing a horse to bet on. There is also the chance to enjoy great food and drink plus extra activities on the racecourse.
Sandown Park racecourse was founded in 1875 and has provided the backdrop to some of the greatest moments in racing. It was the Queen Mother’s favourite racecourse and has developed into one of the most modern and accessible racing venues in the country. It is situated in a prime location in the lush Surrey countryside at Esher and is serviced by trains from London Waterloo and Guildford (both 30 minutes). There is plenty of parking on site and, as well as general admission, there are a range of hospitality options, from your own box, to trackside restaurants and champagne bars.

With the promise of spring in the air, now is the perfect time to book a day out at Sandown Park in Esher to enjoy the racing with family and friends.
Day on 19 February. This day is steeped in racing and military heritage - the feature race, the Royal Artillery Gold Cup, is one of Sandown Park’s oldest races having been first run in 1878. In addition to the racing, if the splendour and fanfare of the Armed Forces is your thing, then don’t miss you chance to see the Royal Artillery Hunt hounds parade.
On 11 and 12 March the racecourse hosts the Grand Military Day and Imperial Cup Day, where the bravery and dedication of the British Armed Forces is celebrated. On 11 March the Grand Military Gold Cup promises to feature some of the country’s finest amateur jockeys and there will be a host of entertainment throughout the afternoon, including music from the military band and the magnificent spectacle of a parade of hunt hounds. The Imperial Cup day then includes two Grade 3 races, as well as a range of free entertainment for children. Sandown Park brings the British Jump season to a close on 23 April, with the bet365 Jump Finale. This day features some of the best jump racing of the season
including a Grade 1 Steeple Chase and guarantees to attract the human and equine stars of the season. On top of this, racegoers are also treated to the Parade of Champions, post-racing entertainment and the End of Season Awards. In 2015 the racecourse sent Sir Anthony McCoy into retirement in style, so this year will see a new champion jump jockey crowned for the first time in 20 years.
Of course racing doesn’t end with the Jump season and Sandown Park also hosts top level Flat racing through the spring and summer, which includes the (Grade 1) Coral Eclipse meeting on 1 and 2 July. The racecourse hosts some quality mid- week evening racing through the summer months and the Gentlemen’s Day on 11 June and Ladies Day on 1 July are sure to attract some well-dressed racegoers.
