It was a crowning moment for Surrey sculptor Helen Pittick when Her Majesty the Queen received a bronze horse she had created.

hen the University of Surrey commissioned Helen to create a bronze horse as a thank you gift to Her Majesty the Queen for officially opening its new School of Veterinary Medicine she was both honoured and thrilled to see the Queen’s face light up when presented with the sculpture. Helen Pittick has been sculpting for over 15 years from her studio in Surrey. Always a keen artist who loved to draw and create models from childhood, Helen’s interest in art initially led her to study to become a fashion designer. She went on to work for several major fashion retailers in London, focusing on both design and the technical side of the business. Returning from a short stay in the USA, Helen took

up sculpture as a new creative outlet, after being inspired by a magazine article about a sculptor living in the Caribbean who created amazing sea life in bronze. Helen has trained in and studied both the art of sculpture and the technical aspects of casting and continues to develop her technique and style by frequently attending courses run by other artists who inspire her. A keen horse rider who loves dressage, her primary passion is equestrian studies and animals. “I love to capture the raw power, flowing movement and grace of the horse in my work,” she told Surrey Magazine. “I am very lucky to own a horse and I constantly study the anatomy and expression of such a magnificent animal.
