February 2016 MAINE COASTAL NEWS Page 7. PASSED OVER THE BAR: JEFF ARMSTRONG OF JEFF'S MARINE

THOMASTON — Jeffrey “Boat King” Armstrong, 64, died unexpectedly January 11, 2016, surrounded by his beloved family. Jeff was born in Boston October 5, 1951, the second son of Robert Weeks Armstrong Jr. and Suzanne Burr Armstrong of Winchester, MA. Jeffrey was a graduate of Winchester High School, attended Hebron Academy and the University of Maine at Orono, where he studied environmental sciences, was a brother of Sigma Chi fraternity and served as captain and goalie of the UMO soccer team. In 1977, Jeff bought his home and

began working at Anchorage Marine in Thomaston. Two years later, he purchased the marina and established Jeff’s Marine Inc. which he operated until his passing. Jeff was dedicated to his profession and worked with enthusiasm to ensure the best boating experience for a myriad of customers. He served on many town and regional com- mittees, including the Thomaston Zoning Board of Appeals, the Thomaston Harbor Committee, the Board of Directors for Rock- land Community Sailing, the Maine Coastal Conservation Association and membership in Ducks Unlimited. Jeff was active in his community, coaching soccer and guiding student tours of the St. George River for Thomaston Grammar School. In 1983, Jeffrey married Nancy Lee Miles of Clinton and they established their home on Wadsworth Court. Together they raised two children, Kathryn Dunham Armstrong and Gordon Weeks Armstrong. Jeff and Nancy opened their home to many young people, including Xiao Dan Mao of Beijing, Alexandra Varney Armstrong of Winchester, Mass., and Svenja Michael of Deinsen, Germany. Jeffrey enjoyed many happy times with his family and friends at his home in

Thomaston, the Haven in Friendship and at his cottage on Hupper Island. Jeff loved the water, boating, fi shing, hunting, traveling, dancing, playing cards and watching sports and classic Western fi lms. He was an avid reader and gardener and had a passion for woodworking and carving. Jeff was an ex- perienced sailor, exploring the waters from Muscongus Bay to the Caribbean. Jeff and Nancy traveled extensively; Jeff especially enjoyed Australia, Alaska, Chile and New Zealand. Jeff will be sadly missed by his family, friends and community, but will be remembered for his zest for life and everlast- ing generosity. As Nancy would say, “There was never a dull moment!” Jeffrey was predeceased by his

father, Robert W. Armstrong Jr., formerly of Friendship; father- and mother-in-law, Andrew and Eunice Miles, formerly of Clinton; and an infant daughter, Jenna Burr Armstrong, formerly of Thomaston. Jeff is survived by his mother, Su-
