At Lash's Boat Yard they are fi nishing this Flower's 38 hull as a sportfi sherman.
General Marine in Biddeford has three Calvin Beal 22s to go. They will be going to Massachusetts, North Carolina and South Carolina. These are basic centre-console outboard boats powered usually with a 150- hp Yamaha.
Also inside was a General Marine 26, which they have purchased and will be restoring her to new condition. She will be going to the Maine Boatbuilder’s Show in March.
There are several storage buildings at the yard and they have a lot of work to get done on these.
In Boothbay at Samoset Boat Works
they have a Wesmac 38 hull in the shop being fi nished out as a sportfi sh/pleasure for a customer from Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. The hull arrived in early November and is scheduled to be fi nished this spring. They
have her fuel tanks in, engine, a 500-hp C9 Caterpillar, has been dry fi t, shaft tube is in and they have painted the engine compart- ment. Now they are working on putting in the systems. Down forward she will have a V-berth, head and hanging locker. She will have a 6 kw genset, twin steering stations, a 12-inch hauler, tackle station and a simple galley up in the shelter.
Padebco Custom Boats in Round Pond added to their storage capacity when the leased a 3,200 square foot heated building. This they fi lled with ease and they are think- ing of adding more for next winter. On the fl oor in the shop are two boats. The bulkheads are in, the top is one and the windows are cut out, and the cabin sole down below and the platform are in. Down forward this boat will be fi tted out with V-berth, head with a shower, but no galley, although there will be a microwave. The new engine will be a John Deere, The interior will be simple and they are fi berglassing the house, putting in a new platform, refasten- ing, recaulking, rewiring and repaint. A Hinckley Picnic boat is in to be re- power. She will be getting another Yanamar.
At Billing’s Diesel & Marine in Ston- ington they have plenty of work, and Greg Sanborn in the mechanical department said this year may be better than last, and last year was incredible. He added that he has sold a number of engines for new lobster boats being built and there is more than plenty of repowers to do.
In one shop is NOR’EASTER, which is in for some deck beam repairs, cosmetics, rechrome some of her hardware and then do her annual maintenance. A Winter Harbor knockabout is in for refastening, the cockpit redone, new rud- der, the hull has been wooden and will be refi nished, and her standing rigging will be replaced. engine work. They are having to cut up some of the platform so they can work on her. The lobster boat GALE WARNINGS II is in for fuel tanks. They have removed part of the platform in order to do this. Another lobster boat is in to have a new platform put in.
About a 45-foot gill-netter has a new owner and the gill-net equipment is being removed. They are also moving the win- ter-back forward two feet.
Another lobster boat is coming in to have a lobster tank installed. A schooner built by Covey Island Boat in Canada will be coming in for some deck work.
Billing’s Diesel & Marine’s work boat was launched about 10 years ago and she is now in need of some repairs and cosmetics. A 42-foot Duffy flybridge cruiser, which was built by Jim Foley at Kittery Point in 1989, is in for annual maintenance.
