A View From
Welcome to my monthly column “A view from the top”. Hopefully you will find my rambling readable maybe even enjoyable. You may agree or you may disagree with my views, I care not. These are my views long held and forged over a life time of work, travel and experience. Now that’s over let’s have a look at what is really winding me up.
As the Festive season is upon us again I thought I would regale you all with another of my now traditional 12 Wonders of Christmas.
1. I have to not only wonder
but also marvel at the collective wisdom that comes from our “inner sanctum” group at my local bar. It’s wonderful how all the woes of the world can be put right over a couple of beers.
2. I really do wonder of the crass ignorance of HRH Princess Michael of Kent when she states “Animals do not have rights” due to the fact that they (the animals) do not pay taxes. My retort is that if paying taxes is the criteria to having rights then the Queen and the Royal hangers on also have no rights.
3. I do wonder at the stupidity of the Government who persecute parents who take their children on holiday during term time. Not all parents can afford summer time prices. My advice is to get after the holiday companies and stop them ripping people off.
4. In the same week that thousands of British people who work in the steel industry were made redundant due to the Chinese dumping steel on the world market, I was aghast at the spectacle of the President of China being paraded down the Mall in London in a Royal gold coach. Talk about a kick in the teeth to the redundant workers.
5. The courage and the drive of thousands of people to risk their lives on the ocean blue and who are prepared to walk across continents to give their families a chance of a better life really does fill me with wonder.
6. Seeing the latest adverts for new cars and the gadgets supplied with them, I do wonder why it’s a crime to use a mobile phone at the wheel but it’s OK to take your hands off the steering wheel and let the car park itself.

7. We all have to wonder at the absolute madness that levies value added tax on Tampons, whilst Jaffa cakes are VAT free.
8. After seeing a picture of my mate “Mo” wearing her late at night “ Tigger” outfit….I really do have to wonder at the fun to be
had in the jungle.
9. In these years of austerity with the weight of the economic crisis seemingly being placed upon the people who can afford it the least, I do wonder at the cheek of MPs (11% pay rise)…government advisers and the host of civil serpents who allow Bankers and Tax avoiders to go about their business whilst benefit claimants are made to feel that they are the great unwashed.
10. With all the killing that is going on in the World in the name of fundamentalism I wonder what is happening to my once golden soul. I used to worry and pray for all God’s children irrespective of whatever view they put forward… now I am becoming so p***d off with the barbaric nature of the fundamentalists that I have become one of them… I now don’t give a s**t if they live or die in the name of their barbarism. God help me and God love the people of Paris in these trying times.
11. Last but one wonder is on a much lighter subject …namely my love for the common garden Sparrow… if you want to be happy keep humans out of your thoughts and reasoning …Go Sparrow! I have entered the construction business, in
that I
am in the process of building nest boxes and nest communal boxes for my crew of house sparrows. If you follow me you will understand where I am coming from, in I have been
that feeding
and nurturing the bird life in my garden for a couple of years. Now with a colony in place I have decided to go into the bird landlord business. Construction is under way and the future looks bright for the Sparrows of the Vega Baja.
12. As I come to my last wonder of the year I have to ponder on the beauty and the beast that is humankind. So clever …so energetic…so creative and so loyal to each other…what a pity we all cannot be dolphins. As for Humankind get your collective act together and demand that the people who purport to represent you do exactly that …represent you rather than leech off you and your pacifist acceptance as to how our World is run on our behalf. Humankind has so much beauty and compassion why do we let these political morons rule in our name. Where oh where are you God when we need you?
