What’s On Malling & district clubs, societies & activities IT is never too late to make a fresh start by taking up new


activities or making new friends. The many clubs and organisations in the Malling Action Partnership area cater for a wide range of interests and offer a warm welcome to newcomers, so why not give them a try? Details of regular meetings are listed on this page.


Mary Rayner collates our community diary with details of various groups and is also compiling a list of special events in the area in 2015. So if you would like your group or event to be included, please send her all the information, including how to contact you.


Saturday November 14 Grand Christmas Craft Bazaar, 11am to 3pm at the Church of St John the Baptist, Tonbridge Road, Wateringbury. From beads to bags and plants to Pashminas – more than 20 stalls full of items by local craftspeople. Refreshments, mulled wine and mince pies. Raffle, cake stall, tombola and much more. Entry free.


Wednesday November 18 Wateringbury Local History Society’s next meeting at Wateringbury Village Hall starting at 8pm, when Tim Tawney will be talking about “Disaster to Triumph” (two battles of the Zulu War). Visitors are very welcome.


Friday November 20


The Malling Society AGM at the Clout Institute, followed by an informal address by Tom Tugendhat MP and wine and nibbles. Starts at 8pm.


Sunday November 22 West Malling Farmers’ Market. 9.30am to 1.30pm, in High Street, West Malling.


Friday November 27 Mobile police station 12pm, High Street, West Malling. 1.45pm, Outside row of shops, Twisden Road, East Malling. 4.30pm, Asda Car Park 1, Alexander Park, Kings Hill.


Saturday December 5 Kent Chamber Choir presents Music for Advent and Christmas at the Church of St John the Baptist, Tonbridge Road, Wateringbury, conducted by Alan Vincent.


A varied evening’s entertain- ment with traditional and less well known carols. Sunday December 6 Light up a Life, The Friars, Aylesford Priory. The Heart of Kent Hospice Light up a Life Appeal provides an opportunity to celebrate, reflect and remember your loved ones as well as support your local hospice by making a donation. You are invited to dedicate a star in memory of someone special, to honour their name in the Book of Remembrance and to join in one of the Remembrance services in the lead up to Christmas. Light up a Life is open to everyone, not just those who have been touched by hospice care. Starts at 4.30pm.

East Malling Singers rehearse on Wednesday evenings, 8pm to 10pm, at St James the Great Church, East Malling.


Kings Hill Rotary meets every Monday at 7.30pm at the Spitfire Pub.


Chip Productions Drama Group meets Fridays at 7.30pm at West Malling Village Hall.


Malling Photographic Society meets every Tuesday at West Malling Village Hall at 8pm.


The Heath Players meet at the East Malling Institute, Mill Street, at 8pm on Fridays.


Malling Rotary meets Tuesdays at 6.30pm at Spadework, Teston Road, Offham.


Malling Art Society meets every Thursday at Offham Village Hall, 8pm to 10pm.


Malling Community Choir meets every Tuesday at West Malling Baptist Church, 7.15pm to 8.45pm. £2 per adult, children free.


East Malling Women’s Institute meets at the East Malling Institute behind the King and Queen pub on the third Monday of every month, 7.45pm to 9.45pm.


Malling Stamp Club meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Clout Institute, West Malling High Street, at 7.30pm.


Craft and chat group Drop-in. Wednesdays, 10am to noon, St James Centre, East Malling.


Spadework Farmers’ Market is on the second Saturday of the month from 10am to 1pm at Spadework, Teston Road. For more details, see www.spadework.net.


Addington Bridge Club meets every Tuesday from 7pm in the sports pavilion, Park Road.


Malling District U3A Monthly Meetings are held at Ryarsh Village Hall, starting at 2pm, on the fourth Tuesday of the month throughout the year.


Let’s Do Lunch! Every Thursday, 11am to 1pm, The Dorcas Centre, Swallow Road, Larkfield.

Baby and toddler group Meets every Wednesday at St James the Great, East Malling. Lots of fun for all children and babies. Starts at 1.30pm.


Mereworth church children’s choir Meets every Wednesday. The children’s choir is a free after school group which rehearses at 6.30pm. Parents welcome. Conductor: Stephen Thomas, 01732 321114. Y1 and up – no need to pre-book.
