Pulp Paper & Logistics
ANDRITZ 25
fulfills the highest quality standards and guarantees the optimum composition and continuous supply of raw materials in the paper manufacturing process. It also contributes towards energy- efficient production, achieving an excellent and sustainable eco- balance.
Modern pumps for modern paper production A variety of state-of-the-art process pumps were supplied by ANDRITZ, including stock, water, and high-pressure pumps, as well as double-suction fan pumps, for the PM2 kraft paper machine, which is the most modern of its type in Europe. All of the centrifugal pumps are maintenance-friendly, exceptionally robust, and wear- resistant. They set new standards in terms of efficiency, flexibility, and
design. The scope of delivery and services also included the entire engineering work, thus ANDRITZ was able to provide the customer with a full package from a single source.
Reliable and cost-effective operation Thanks to the top-class equipment supplied along with the professional installation of the components, reliable plant operation is guaranteed in the long term. When installing the PM2 at the Pöls mill, ANDRITZ specialists worked together closely with the operating personnel. This process also included the required precision alignment of high-tech components. In this way, intensive and cost-effective training and technical know-how was provided for future equipment operators.
About the ANDRITZ HYDRO Pumps Division The Pumps Division, part of the ANDRITZ Group’s HYDRO business area (a global leader in the supply of turnkey systems and services for hydropower stations), develops and manufactures customised large-scale pumps and standardised centrifugal pumps for many different applications, such as water transport for supply of drinking water, the energy sector, process pumps in the sugar and bioethanol industry, as well as in pulp and paper mills. Decades of experience in building hydraulic machines and also comprehensive know-how form the basis of the high standard of pump engineering. ANDRITZ offers the full range of services – from model testing, design engineering, fabrication and project management, to service and training – all from a single source.
Facts and figures: Zellstoff Pöls PM2 The Zellstoff Pöls PM2 kraft paper machine has a design speed of 1,200 metres per minute and a paper machine speed of 1,000 metres per minute. It used for making kraft paper, bleached white or bright white products with a basis weight range of 28-120 g/ m², the raw material being long-fibre pulp produced in the mill with short-fibre pulp and fillers added. With a working width of 5.4 metres its annual capacity is 80,000 tons. End products are paper bags, tote bags, gift wrapping, and composite packaging for food or medical products.
PRODUCTS & SERVICES 25 Environmentally safe corrosion inhibitors
is said to be environmentally safe and provides a cost efficient alternative to traditional corrosion inhibitor formulations. Using Cortec’s VpCl chemistries, the non-toxic, economical and readily water-soluble powders and liquids prevent corrosion and pitting while being free of nitrites, phosphates, amines or heavy metals.
F
Called CorShield S-69, the inhibitors are claimed to be effective in low concentrations. VpCl is said to form a strong monomolecular layer on the metal surface that protects in all three phases: liquid, vapour, and the vapour-liquid interface.
Says Boris Miksic, Cortec’s chief
executive: “CorShield S-69 is the most effective corrosion inhibiting building block commercially available with excellent environmental footprint.” CorShield S-69 powders and
liquids provide water treatment operations with the ability to incorporate Cortec VpCl technology into their specific formulations. The concentration of S-69 inhibitor in an application can be easily monitored with a
molybdenum tracing kit, or with UV spectroscopy. A molybdenum- free version (S-69 PMF), and lower-pH version (S-69B,) of S-69P are also available. More information from www.
