El Pirata G.S at Las Colinas

On Tuesday 21st July our Society travelled out to Las Colinas Golf Club. There was a good turnout of 24 members and our photographer (there to catch the embarrassing moments off the first tee), ventured out on a very hot day. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition with some of the members saying they thought some the greens were a little bit on the slow side but still very good.

Gary Stroyd (newbie), who has never played on a Spanish course before, came in with a respectable 33 points. Phil Harris (no nickname as yet, but give it time) scored a good 34 points. Dave Gregson (we would like to call him the Master) playing off 8

scored a very good 35 points. John Devine, playing on his home course, came in with 34 points. We must give a big thank you to all the staff at Las Colinas Golf Club for helping to make it such a really great day which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. We have to mention that some of us thought we were seeing double or had already been affected by the sun when we walked in as there were identical twins working behind the bar. After the game we returned to the Bar El Pirata for a well-deserved drink. Our hostess Sam provided food, which was greatly appreciated by all, and Diane did a great job behind the bar. Our photographer, Kristoff, was on hand to record the day’s winners. As on previous occasions, some of the wives, girlfriends, partners and friends joined us for the prize presentation. The winners on the day were:- Gold section, 1st David Gregson 35pts, 2nd John Devine 34pts (c/b), Silver Section, 1st Phil Harris 34pts, 2nd Gary Stroyd 33pts NTPs, 5th Barry Grinsell, 7th David Gregson,10th Tom Johnston, 17th Dave Temple. The 2’s outright winner was David Gregson.

The members in the photo, starting from the left, Gary Stroyd, Phil Harris, David Gregson, Dave Temple and John Devine. Our next game is on the 15th September, (four ball Texas Scramble – just for a change) at La Marquesa Golf Club.
