good mix of both Pharmacy and OTC business.

Helene grew up in East Lothian. Now living in the Borders she graduated from Robert Gordon University more than 20 years ago and prior to joining Lindsay & Gilmour worked in the consortium Pharmacy located in the Hawick Health Centre. She has worked with the company since December 2011.

Having arrived in the branch just over three years ago following the previous Manager’s retirement she immediately made an impact on the business. Having spent much of her career working in one of the other local Pharmacies Helene always had excellent relationships with the GPs and other health professionals in the town. The relationships and

trust she had built up with patients of that Pharmacy over a number of years resulted in many of her patients making the move with her when she came to Lindsay & Gilmour.

Helene identifi ed early on that the business was underperforming and immediately began working on growing the Pharmacy services and developing the customer service in the branch. She recognised that in order to do this she would require some additional assistance in the Dispensary. With assistance from the Head Offi ce management team Helene was encouraged to begin these changes. She began by growing the Minor Ailment Service which was rarely offered/utilised previously.

Making an instant impact the number of patients registered for the service

grew by more than 50% in just 2 months and had doubled by 6 months. It took just 14 months for Helene to grow the registrations in the branch from the bottom of Band 2 up to Band 6.

Through Helene’s leadership all her staff have developed the confi dence to deliver this service to their patients. To sustain this level of eMAS patients requires the hard work and co- operation of all members of both the Dispensary and OTC teams.

During this time prescription numbers have also increased by 40%. It was clear that Helene was committed to delivering on the promises that she had made when she was initially interviewed for the position. Once it was established that the business was growing at a fast pace it was obvious
