MELTDOWN BYRNE’S DAVID
17th-30th August Southbank Centre, London
Perfect for: culture vultures who like the Big Smoke
Te 22nd Meltdown takes place at the Southbank Centre in London town this month. Tis year, Talking Heads’ frontman and solo artist David Byrne has curated the eclectic line up, joining a long line of guest curators who have included Massive Attack, Bowie and Yoko Ono. Meltdown’s kind of important; the New York Dolls reunited for Morrissey, Jeff Buckley played his final UK show at Elvis Costello's Meltdown, Nick Cave, Grace Jones and Pete Doherty sang Disney songs with Jarvis Cocker and Patti Smith performed Horses in full for her Meltdown. It’s an opportunity to see some very special one-off performances. David’s picked some great acts for 2015, including Tere Will Be Blood live with Johnny Greenwood and orchestra, Sunn O))), Anna Calvi, Psapp, Planet of the Apes live with an orchestra, and Sinkane amongst many others. Tickets to all the events are available individually. It’s really easy to get there and no need for any mud protection!

READING FESTIVAL
28th-30th August
Richfield Avenue, Reading Perfect for: no frills live music
Reading is a pretty small festival site, comparatively, and in 2015, when most festivals are situated in forests, or near lakes, or basically in nature, Reading stands out as being a bit different; it’s virtually right in Reading town centre. And there’s none of that kids zone, airy fairy hippy shiz for Reading. Oh no. It’s just all about the music. Tis year, Mumford and Sons are amongst the top acts playing, there’s an R1Extra dance stage, Azaelia Banks is appearing and their comedy line up is second to none. Other massive names you can see at Reading this year include Metallica, Royal Blood, Limp Bizkit, Rebel Sound, and Mastodon. With six stages of music, there’s bound to be something you’ll enjoy at any time of the day or night. Just be ready for no nonsense partying. No saunas. No woodland trails. No science experiments for kids. Just good dirty music.
