NORWICH BODY ART FESTIVAL 2015 INTRODUCTION

“My tattooing is indestructible. It is an everlasting gem that you

will take into your grave.” – Verse from a traditional Polynesian tattoo artist’s song

F

rom the 1st Millennium BC to the man-bunned, sleeve sporting

hipsters, the history of tattooing is a vibrant one; a popular, beautiful and fascinating practice that crosses all ages, sexes and classes. And Norwich has decided to celebrate tattoos for the seventh year in the form of the Norwich Body Art Festival.

Tis August, Open’s majestic banking hall will throw its doors open as the Norwich Body Art Festival makes its triumphant return. Tis year there’ll be over 60 local, national and international tattoo artists all making their art come to life before your eyes including a traditional Maori tattoo artist, Te Rangitu Netana Ta Moko.

If you're not yet old enough to get a tattoo or spent all your money on festival booze, fear not! Over the two days there’ll be plenty more to keep you entertained. Tis year there are a tonne of stalls selling beautiful selections of clothes, jewellery and artwork from local and national artists that you can poke around to your hearts content. Don’t miss some fantastic competitions including the Mr Beardy beard competition and if you don’t mind a ring of fire, why not enter the chilli eating contest? To satisfy those looking for even rarer visual treats, check out the very

special performances going on in the Club Room, including the weird and wonderful contortionist Lily Jarvis, Norwich’s own quirky top hat juggler Miss Jennifer Juggle Hat, the spellbinding Penny Miracle with her fire antics and burlesque dancer Lola Loveboat. Tere will even be some live music from Tibetan Night Terrors. Fancy something more spiritual on an August afternoon? Try a tarot reading from Susie Q and Mistress Wyrd and enjoy the opportunity to see the second exclusive solo exhibition from world renowned tattoo artist Xed le Hed from Divine Canvas in London.

But what about refreshments I hear you cry? Well don’t worry, you’ve got that all sorted for you too; the Club Room has its own licensed bar to keep you ticking over.

Over the next few pages Outline will give you all the information you need for this year’s Body Art Festival including profiles of some of the artists and entertainers that will be there. If you would like to get a tattoo done at the festival we strongly recommend you book a place with your artist of choice in advance.
