venues. Hi All!

Phew! ... Is is hot - or what? Despite the intense heat, last month I ventured far from the air- conditioning to pay a call on a duo that I had been hearing a lot about recently. I am referring to Paul Castle and Roger Beamer aka “The Jammy Dodgers”. The story began a few years ago when these affable musicians met at VillaMartin Golf Club. Along with a Double Bass Player, Paul and Rodger formed a trio called The Dodgy Jammers. They chose this name as, at the time, they mainly played at Jam Sessions, with the odd gig here and there. Some time later, the trio broke up as Singer / Guitarist Roger returned to Devon in the U.K. to take over a franchise running a crazy golf course. This meant he would only be available here in the winter months, when things are generally quieter. However, last year Roger gave up the franchise and decided to return to live in Spain permanently.

Paul and Roger once again decided to get together musically, and formed the “Jammy Dodgers Duo”, with Roger on Vocals / Bass Guitar and Paul on Vocals / Lead and Rhythm Guitar. Initially, they found it difficult to break onto the local music circuit as a live act amongst the many backing track performers.

They always go down well with the public wherever they play, but are still looking for “regular” spots. Both of these very talented musicians have a wealth of experience, having played in bands, duos and trios over the years. I was interested to hear that Roger played in a 1960s band called “ Listen”, with the (then unknown) Robert Plant, who went on to find fame (and fortune) with the legendary “Led Zeppelin”. The Jammy Dodgers have a vast repertoire covering most types of music from across the decades, playing the classics that most of us grew up listening to. I thoroughly enjoy listening to them, and if you haven’t heard them yet - check out the local press for their forthcoming appearances. I’m off for a “cold shower” now - speak soon.

Bye for now, D.P.
