downsmail.co.uk Home praised Stones stadium deal

for care level A HOME for the elderly in Head- corn has been praised for the care it provides, but told it needs to im- prove on all other fronts. The Care Quality Commission

made an unannounced visit to Yew Tree House in Station Road, where 12 people were being looked after. All had a fair level of independ- ence, but with various require- ments for additional support. The inspector’s report noted that people said they were well cared for, and felt safe. “People told us that they were

happy with their choice of home and satisfied with the care and sup- port they received from staff.” But, it added that the home was

not always responsive to changing care needs; the system for review- ing care records was not suffi- ciently robust to highlight shortfalls and people had little to do and could become bored. The inspection team will re-visit

the home after having offered ad- vice on how to correct regulation breaches, including monitoring the quality of services to ensure people are kept safe and that their needs are fully met.

THE Gallagher Group has ex- tended its naming rights’ agree- ment two years early to support Maidstone United’s plan to double the size of its main stand. Gallagher has paid £100,000 to-

wards the club’s £600,000 project to provide an extra 350 seats, support- ers’ lounge and extra terraces behind both goals. The sponsorship deal means the home of Maidstone United will be known as the Gal- lagher Stadium until at least 2022. Maidstone FC chief executive Bill

Williams said: “The company’s sig- nificant contribution has boosted our fundraising efforts for thissummer’s stadium improvement work. “Adding extra seats is a priority but this work will also increase the

On a number of occasions during the past few yearswe’ve had sell-outs, so by going up to 3,000 it will give more families the opportu- nity to enjoy our big games.” Gallagher Group chairman Pat Gallagher said: “Maidstone United returning to the town was always going to be great, but you would have struggled to imagine the enor-

Bloomin’ Headcorn plans to increase the natural beauty and biodiversity of the village and bring to- gether the community with its planting plans. It is asking villagers for their ideas on which areas

could do with a touch of planting magic and is work- ing with the parish council, which has agreed for spring bulbs and a mini meadow on Days Green. Anyone with ideas can contact the group on 07503 258769 or email bloominheadcorn@gmail.com.

mity of their impact. It was clear to us very early on that Terry, Oliver [Ash, club chairman] and the team around them were worth backing and so it has proved. “It is a privilege and a pleasure to

be associated with the club and to bring forward our sponsorship to help them take the next step in their development.”

Station roof proposal

EAST Farleigh Parish Council has supported Net- work Rail's listed building planning application to replace a roof at the village’s railway station. According to a supporting statement, the corru-

gated asbestos roof has been letting in water. It is proposed to replace it with a fibre concrete slate to match the recently re-roofed signal box. A supporting statement said: “The signal box

forms an important part of the setting and the listed building will in future sit better in its setting.” Maidstone Council will decide.
