Leaflet explains war memorial
THE parish council has produced a leaflet explaining the significance of the Boxley war memorial.
The leaflet also gives brief details
of the fallen of both world wars whose names are inscribed on it. Boxley war memorial was paid
for by public subscription and cost £286 7shillings (286.35) in 1925, which would be roughly £11,000 in today’s money. The memorial has 34 names from
World War I and 14 from World War II. The first man was killed in action on May 23, 1915 with the last recorded death in World War I on November 7, 1918, just four days before the end of the conflict. The leaflet, which is available to
the public and schools, also con- tains background information on topics including the significance of poppies, the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior and Armistice Day. It can be downloaded on the parish councilwebsite.

Objections to
housing plans AT the Environment Committee meeting members noted that the newapplication for GleamingWood Drive was very similar to that of 2013, with some minor changes to the road layout. After consideration they decided
to again strongly object, due to the loss of and impact on the open coun- tryside, ancient woodland, wildlife and habitats. Concerns were also raised about
the traffic impact on the area, addi- tional traffic to service the bio-mass unit and the ability of the infrastruc- ture to support the families of the proposed 89 houses.
Cash help for woodlands
THE Walderslade Woodlands Group has received a £3,800 grant fromAwards For All. The sum is 50% of the cost of a
new equipment store with the group, via funding from the parish council, covering the other 50%. The volunteer group has been es- tablished for over 12 years and works within the Kent-owned woods to keep the paths cleared, the area free from litter and to create and manage wildlife habitats. The group has recently installed
some informal children’s seating in a glade at Coal Bottom, and is look- ing for ideas from residents on what products it can supply from the felled or fallen trees. Ideas already suggested include wooden “step- ping stones” to create paths.
Help for groups
THE parish council will give grants to organisations that support and provide services to the community. The policy and an application
form is available from the council website or the parish office. The council has previously sup-
ported village halls, Scout groups, local schools etc.
Warmwelcome THEparish council meets at 7.30pm on the first Monday of each month and members of the public are warmly invited to come along. Meetings are held at a number of
venues throughout the parish, so please check the parishwebsite.
