in reality, even the best of clubs deal with the occasional calamity and in- surance claim resulting from poor weather, equipment malfunctions or a staff misstep. Here are the top four most fre-
quent insurance claims made by Canadian fitness clubs and profession- als, according to April Pittendreigh the claims manager at Stevenson & Hunt Insurance Brokers, an insurer specializing in the health and fitness industry.

THE CLAIM: Slips, trips and falls By far the most frequent insur-
ance claim by clubs is slips and falls that typically occur at the entrance, in the parking lot or in the shower area. “Stairs, ice outside the front doors and mats that absorb water in reception areas are common slip and trip haz- ards,” says Pittendreigh. “People have also made insurance claims when they trip over an exercise mat or a piece
