A BARGOED man will be locked up for two years after trying to rob a games console from a stranger and assaulting another man on the same day last year. Cory Hogan, 18, of Upper

Wood Street, admitted the offences and was found not guilty of more serious charges, including sexual assault, at a trial last month. He was 17 when he commit-

ted the offences on November 7, 2014. In the first, he attempted with

two others – who have never been identified – to steal a Play- Station 4 after they saw a man leave Bargoed train station at 5.30pm. Hogan punched the victim

to the ground and the man fell on top of the console to stop the attackers taking it. People passing by then chased Hogan and his two accomplices away and they escaped. At about 8.30pm that even-

ing he attacked another man, who knew him. The victim then raced to his sister’s home, where Hogan punched and stamped on his head eight or nine times. The victim briefly lost consciousness. When he awoke, Hogan had left. But Heath Edwards, defend-

ing, saidHogan claimed he was aware of “not wanting to hurt [the victim] too much” and since he had become a “signifi- cantly changed individual”. Cardiff Crown Court heard

he already had 12 convictions for 17 offences, including a rob- bery, for which he was sent to a youth offender institution for 10 months. Judge DJ Hale sentenced Ho-

gan to 16 months in an youth offender institution for the at- tempted robbery and a further eight months for the assault. Those two sentences will be served consecutively. He said Hogan had commit-

ted “cowardly acts”, particu- larly by attacking a stranger.
