excellent visitors who kept their play- off hopes alive with a devastat- ing second- half perfor- mance that

blew the home side away. Bedwas outscored Newport by six tries to two and the gulf between the two sides was fairly reflected in the 26-point difference between them. The visitors’ outside-half Rich-

ard Powell opened the scoring with a penalty and he extended

their lead to 6-0 soon after with anoth- er, after the hosts were reduced to 14 men with prop David Young’s yel- low card af- ter a big fist fight between several for- wards. The visitors capitalised when they

Bargoed extend their run with a ive-try win

Bargoed 33 Glynneath 22 BARGOED winger Lee Pearson scored a hat-trick in an entertaining encounter as the club extended their unbeaten run in a five-try victory over Glynneath at the new 4G elite training facility at Ystrad Mynach, writes Ian Jenkins. Glynneath came out of the blocks full

went down the other end of the field and scored an unconverted try after wing Matthew John brushed off some weak tackling. A fine individual try by scrum

half Owen Davies got the hosts right back into it, O’Driscoll’s conversion made it 11-7 after 22 minutes.

Then an- other punch up saw Bed- was tight- head Mat- thew Pettit sin binned 10 minutes later, but it didn’t affect Steve Law’s men too much be- cause wing Rory Budina crossed in the corner for his side’s second

unconverted try as the half end- ed with Bedwas nine points up. O’Driscoll missed a fairly straight forward penalty as New- port laboured to get back into the game but the sharper and more capable Bedwas blew them apart in the second-half. Scrum half Luke Crane made

a devastating break to set up a glorious second try for Budina, Powell converting. The visitors ended the game

as a contest in the 62nd min- ute when centre Aaron Pinches crossed, again Powell added the conversion. Pinches crossed for his second

of intent and were on the scoreboard after seven minutes. Bargoed levelled it just five minutes later. Prosser converted only for Josh O’Reilly to put the visitors back in front from a penalty just after the restart. Bargoed finally asserted themselves

with two tries in quick succession 10 minutes before half time. Bargoed were in front by 21-10. The Blues went further ahead seven minutes into the second half. Bargoed were 26-10 up. Bargoed prop Keiron Brown got Bar- goed’s second yellow of the game on 55 minutes for not retreating 10 metres and Glynneath took full advantage with Stu- art Leach going over to make it 26-15. Bargoed increased the margin with a peach of a try for Pearson’s hat-trick. Bargoed were leading by 33-15 with eight minutes left. The referee controversially penalised centre Darren Humphries for being in front of the kicker collecting a Neil Burnett chip, after the outside half had checked that he was onside, and which would almost certainly have resulted in a Bargoed try. As it was, Glynneath took it quickly and hooker Craig Tennant went over with O’Reilly adding the conversion to make the final score 33-22.
