Jones until passing after a tornado hit her home in White County during the late ’90s. Paisley stars in some of her publications for children, like Princess Paisley Cooks with Friends and A Birthday to Crow About, a part of the Sun-e-dale Knoll tale series. “Princess Paisley was a cat. Every animal that I

write about was real,” Jones says. “When a tornado hit, Princess Paisley got advanced diabetes from it, so I had to put her to sleep, but that’s when the stories started coming, so she’s never gone. “She’s always here.”

Studying with the best A true artist is well-rounded. Growing up, Jones

attended the Art Students League in New York City with Earl Mayan, known for his work with the Saturday Evening Post, and Steven Kidd with the New York Daily News. She studied illustration, along with anatomy, under Robert Hale. “(Hale) changed my drawing style. He took me from

a high school, sitting at my desk drawing pictures, to a full-fledged artist,” Jones reflects. “So when I got to England, my uncle put me in with a very prominent illustrator, and the next class I had to take was anatomy. Well, he sent me to the Royal Academy of Arts. Of course, we dissected people there, and that’s how I learned anatomy.” She also attended Sir John Cass College in London for drawing, painting and illustration, putting a touch of

Princess Paisley the cat and her friends.
