‘Like falling in love all over again’ It was during that time in his late


20’s that fly fishing entered the Aussie’s life. When a friend first suggested fly fishing, he resisted. It wasn’t cool. It was an old man’s game. Once he touched a fly rod, however, he was hooked. “It was like falling in love all over


again,” he says. Fly fishing soon absorbed his every


moment. It became an obsession. And for Dally, the mecca of fly fishing was America. So he moved to California, married and began freelance writing. His wife would later take a job in Arkansas. Dally eventually got a job at a fly shop in Cotter, where he now manages Dally’s Ozark Fly Fisher. Back on the White River, as Dally,


now 48, continues casting, he talks pas- sionately about his new game — hunt- ing monster brown trout with a fly rod. The style of fishing, drift boat fish-


ing and throwing huge flies — called streamer fishing — in what is some- times brutally cold weather, is not for everyone, he admits. “This is one very weird end of the fly fishing world,” Dally says. “It’s not the
