Spicerhaart overturns recent ASA ruling
Spicerhaart is celebrating its ‘independence’ after overturning a recent ruling from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The Spicerhaart Group, which is made up of six estate agency brands – Darlows, Fine, Felicity J Lord, haart, Haybrook and Spicer McColl – referred a recent case involving Darlows to Sir Hayden Phillips, the independent reviewer at the ASA. Originally, the ASA had upheld a claim brought by Kelvin Francis Estate Agents with reference to the use of the term ‘independent’ in a regional press advert for Darlows. However, the ASA has concluded that the original decision from the advertising

HSBC conveyancing panel expands
HSBC is to expand the panel of law firms which are able to carry out conveyancing for it. The bank will widen its panel to include law firms which carry the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme accreditation, giving home buyers who use HSBC a choice of 1,419 firms. The bank had previously restricted borrowers to using a solicitor from a panel of just 43 firms across England and Wales. The Law Society’s
Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) is an accreditation which provides an assessment of a firm’s policies, quality control and procedures and was introduced to enable movers to easily identify the best property solicitors in their local area. Tom Bridge, Managing
Partner of the residential property department at Stephensons Solicitors LLP, said, “this decision to expand

industry watchdog was ‘flawed’ and the adjudication has been updated on the grounds that Spicerhaart was privately owned and controlled, and independent of any other larger concerns. Darlows and the other

state in future press adverts that they are ‘part of the UK’s largest independent estate agency group.’ Paul Smith, CEO of Spicerhaart

Zoopla.co.uk has signed as the principal sponsor of Premier League football club, West Bromwich Albion until at least the 2014/2015 season. The deal, which marks a new phase of brand activity for Zoopla, will see its branding take pride of place on the shirts of the Albion players, throughout the Hawthorns stadium, on official club merchandise, across the club’s website, on match tickets/programmes and on the interview backdrops featured on Sky and BBC football coverage. The deal also includes
comprehensive hospitality opportunities, match tickets, player appearances and use of the stadium facilities for Zoopla to entertain its advertising members and support its charitable efforts. Alex Chesterman, Founder
the panel comes after a four month campaign by firms like Stephensons, organisations such as The Bold Group and lobbying by the Law Society. Transactions would take longer because of the small number of firms on the original panel and home buyers who wanted to use their own solicitor would have to pay a fee. We are delighted that HSBC has provided more choice for its customers.” Martijn van der Heijden, Head
of Lending at HSBC said, “We introduced our panel to provide
additional protection for both our customers and the bank. We listened to feedback from customers and solicitors, and through working with the Law Society can now agree to more solicitors acting for us while also managing our risks and maintaining the unique benefits of using one of our panel solicitors. We are committed to helping our home-buying customers and have set aside £15 billion to lend in residential mortgages this year.”
& CEO of Zoopla said, “This deal will help raise our brand awareness and reach a huge audience; it is a further step in our mission to make Zoopla a household name. Our agent members will benefit greatly from the national brand exposure of this partnership as we further cement our position as their most valued marketing partner.” Mark Jenkins, Chief
Executive of West Bromwich Albion Football Club said, “This represents the most comprehensive sponsorship deal in the club’s history. We are confident Zoopla will be a great partner for us and are looking forward to building a strong working relationship with them.”
